In the competitive business scenario, enhancement of learning capabilities of employees is a must for all organizations. In this direction, GAIL established its training centre "GAIL TrainingInstitute" (GTI) at Noida in the year 1997 with assistance from DANIDA (Danish International Development Agency). In 2005, GAIL established another training institute at Jaipur for workmen andother Non – executives. Since beginning, GTI has been endeavoring to develop itself as aleading Training Institute by offering various training programmes related to the Gas Value Chain for professional development of executives & workmen working in the Oil & Gas sector. To achieveGAIL's vision, GTI is continuously gearing up to design programmes to sharpen knowledge, improve skills, align attitude and promote efficient use of latest technology. GTI has been meeting these aspects with ever increasing process improvement of its management systems. GTI is an ISO 9001:2015 certified institute.
GTI is committed to meet the present and future training needs of Oil & Gas sector. Main focus areas are to identify, design,coordinate/conduct and impart training programmes on:

- Operational, Technical, IT and Safety needs of employees
- Behavior alignment related areas
GTI has a dedicated faculty base with long experience and expertise in the areas of Natural Gas & LPG Pipeline Construction and O&M. Compressor Stations, LPG Plants, Petrochemical Plant, City Gas &CNG, SAP-ERP, Cathodic Protection, Integrity Management, Quality Management, Health, Safety & Environment, etc. In addition to its core faculty, GTI draws experts from various GAIL departments & functions for conducting the focused programmes. Specialists with excellent background in industry, teaching and consulting in various fields, the faculty is a highly diversified group of individuals, who have graduated from leading management and technical institutions like IIM & IITs. GTI has also tied up with a variety of renowned training institutes which provide expert faculty for conducting the courses.The faculty members create an environment wherein participants are encouraged to challenge the status quo and develop critical thinking skills. Learning at GTI is enhanced by 'Hands-on Training' on computers,simulators and relevant visits to various sites/plants for gaining firsthand practical experience.
GTI has conducted over 316 training programs last year (FY 2021-22) covering 25,578 Mandays for its executives and also has extended its wings to cater to the requirements of the Oil and Gas Sector, making it one of the leading training institutes of the country offering programs in Hydrocarbon sector.
The Institute is capable of conducting upto 6 programmes, 2 major conferences simultaneously on any particular day in physical environment. The lecture rooms, conference and seminar rooms are equipped with the very latest in teaching aids and audio- visual facilities. Syndicate rooms for small group activities are also available. For large gatherings and conferences, the Institute has a plush 200-seater auditorium. Currently the programs are being conducted through virtual online mode.
GTI draws on diverse sources to bring together thought leaders in its calm and serene environs, from practicing professionals in the large in-house talent pool of GAIL, to industry experts, consultants and academicians from leading business schools. This creates a learning environment that simultaneously educates and enriches.
GAIL/GTI from time to time, have entered into institutional collaboration with leading institutes like major IITs, major IIMs of India , MDI India, AIMA India , ISTD India , ASME (USA) for providing appropriate training interventions, Industry Academia collaboration, and providing consultancy in relevant fields. Many reputed training agencies have been empanelled by us for conducting outbound training modules, and academic management institutes also conduct general management modules for our executive trainees as well as other participants. In fact, institutional collaboration is an on-going activity depending upon emerging needs.
The Institute has, over the years, trained a large number of professionals in India and abroad in diverse areas of technical and managerial disciplines.
GAIL has acquired significant expertise in Project Management, Operation & Maintenance Management, CGD to offer Training courses in these areas. GTI, in accordance with the HR Vision of the Company, has focused on building the competence and commitment of Team GAIL, and provides the platform for sharing knowledge and practical experience gained in these are as through its various training programs, seminars and workshops.
Developing the Leaders of today and tomorrow
We believe that leadership can be developed at all levels, and, to that end, we have put in place a series of leadership development interventions at critical transition levels in the organizational hierarchy, from functional specialist to junior manager, from junior to middle management, and from middle to senior management. We share our approach with customers and create transformational learning experiences for them. At GTI, we create a culture where learning drives strategy and leaders are moulded and prepared to succeed now as well as in the future. The large number of leaders GAIL has provided to the energy sector including various Directors and CMD over the years reflects the success of our philosophy.Details of our leadership development interventions are given in the subsequent section.
Global Footprint
GTI faculty have undertaken various international assignments like providing training on SAP for CAG auditors of 22 countries. SAARC countries .
We plan to expand this portfolio by providing training to other countries of Middle East and South Asia.
Leveraging IT driven Platforms
The IT needs of the institute are met through campus-wide LAN which supports and integrates two computer labs and administrative offices. The centralized labs (Aryabhatt & Manisha) are equipped with desktops and have the capacity to train about sixty participants simultaneously, catering to both high-end and low-end user needs. High-speed Internet connectivity is now available not only in the GTI institutional area but also in the rooms of the residential complex where the participants and the trainees stay. We have Wi-Fi facility in the entire institutional area for mobile access to knowledge.
We are expanding our reach through IT platforms such as Simulators, Video-Conferencing, Web- Conferencing and e-learning to provide training at the doorstep of the employee. Programmes are conducted in technical and managerial areas for our executives posted at various GAIL locations across the country.
GAIL aspires to promote GTI as Centre of Excellence in the business areas such as Natural Gas, City Gas Distribution (CGD), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Petrochemicals.
Training programs are being specifically designed and crafted to suit to the requirements so as to address the growing needs of CGD Business. GTI conducts full-fledged training programs covering end to end solution for employees employed in this sector. Now, GTI has decided to continue focused training programs on Natural Gas pipeline maintenance based on ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standards and codes. With addition of this feather in its cap by becoming Authorized Training Provider (ATP) with Authorized Training Instructors (ATI) of its own, GTI is now available with the following ASME programs: ASME B31.8 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping systems ASME B 31.8S Integrity, Management and Maintenance of Gas Pipelines
In view of the business expansion of NG & CGD Sector in India, the certified courses of ASME B31.8 and ASME B31.8S shall be helpful in meeting the industry requirements of trained and skilled manpower for execution of these projects.
